TikTok Ads Manager 101: Setup & Pixel

"TikTok is just for dancing kids." Wrong. TikTok is the most sophisticated interest-graph algorithm in history. To leverage it, you need to feed it data. That starts with the Pixel.
The Setup
- Create Account: TikTok for Business.
- Assets → Events: Click "Manage" under Web Events.
- Set Up Web Event: Select "Manual Setup" (Developers Mode gives you more control than Partner Integration).
- Install Base Code: Paste it in the
<head>of your website (just like Facebook).
The Secret Sauce: Developer Mode + Events API
The browser pixel is dying (thank you, Apple). TikTok's Events API (Server-Side) is the only way to get accurate data. If you are on Shopify, just use the Native TikTok App. It handles the Server-Side API automatically. If you are on WordPress/Custom, you need verification.
Events to Track
Do not just track "Purchase." The TikTok algorithm needs signals. Track the micro-conversions:
- View Content (Page View): Minimum 1,000 events/week.
- Add to Cart: Minimum 200 events/week.
- Initiate Checkout: Minimum 100 events/week.
- Complete Payment: Minimum 50 events/week. If you don't hit 50 conversions a week, the algorithm can't optimize. Optimization Goal: If you have low volume, optimize for "Add to Cart" first, then switch to "Purchase" once you have data.
The "TikTok Helper"
Download the "TikTok Pixel Helper" chrome extension. Load your site. If you see all green checks, you are good. If you see red, you are burning money.
